The Hundred is heating up with members of the  South East Stars squad sprinkling some of their stardust on the competition.

The second week of The Hundred kicked off with an incredible tie as the Northern Superchargers shared the points with the Southern Brave on Tuesday 30 July. Stars’ Alice Davidson-Richards smashed 27 for the Superchargers in the first tied match of the 2024 Hundred.

Stars captain Bryony Smith hit 23 as Trent Rockets fell three runs short of the Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge.

Sophia Dunkley scored a quick-fire 17 at Lord’s to propel Welsh Fire to the top of the table. Phoebe Franklin played the supporting role at the end as Hayley Matthews (78 not out) scored the winning runs.

Despite Paige Scholfield’s 24, Oval Invincibles fell to a disappointing 82-run defeat to the Northern Superchargers at The Kia Oval last Friday.

On Saturday, Tilly Corteen-Coleman’s two wickets were not enough as Southern Brave fell to defeat at the Birmingham Phoenix. The 2023 champions are winless in this year’s competition.

Sunday saw the second tie of the week as the London Spirit and Oval Invincibles shared a point at Lord’s. Ryana MacDonald-Gay took 2/22 from here 20 balls, including two more wickets bowled that will be added to her growing highlights reel. Alice Capsey scored 27 as the Invincibles reached the same score. Ryana MacDonald-Gay required 2 from the final ball, but was ran out after some good keeping from Stars’ Georgia Redmayne.

Two days later, Paige Scholfield was award the Match Hero award after her 48 not out got the Invincibles over the line against the Manchester Originals at Old Trafford. On the same day, Alice Davidson-Richards was awarded the Match Hero award as the Northern Superchargers beat the Birmingham Phoenix by 61 runs at Edgbaston.

Bryony Smith smashed 34 at the top of the order as Trent Rockets beat the London Spirit by 31 runs at Trent Bridge.

The race for qualification is heating up with all eight teams have now playing five matches. Welsh Fire sit top of the pile on 8 points, with Northern Superchargers and Oval Invincibles breathing down their necks on seven points.

The Hundred Eliminator takes place at The Kia Oval on Saturday 17 August, with the final taking place at Lord’s on Sunday 18 August.
