We’re delighted that Alice Capsey, Alice Davidson-Richards, and Sophia Dunkley have been named in England’s 15-strong squad to take on Australia in the LV= Insurance Ashes Test later this month.
Earlier today, England announced their Test squad for the 2023 Metro Bank Ashes Series, where Heather Knight’s outfit will kick off their Ashes summer with a five-day Test match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, from June 22.
Dunkley made her England Test debut at Bristol in 2021 against India, when she scored a skilful 74 not out off 127 balls – her personal best in the Test format. She has since played red-ball cricket for the national team on two more occasions, including in an Ashes encounter at Canberra.
Last summer, Davidson-Richards made a memorable debut against South Africa at Taunton, scoring a wonderful 107 off 194 balls, while 18-year-old Capsey – who has played 15 IT20s and four ODIs for England – could potentially earn her Three Lions Test cap on June 22.
Before the LV= Insurance Ashes Test, England will face Australia A in a three-day warm-up fixture at the Incora County Ground, Derbyshire from June 15.
Meanwhile, England A – who will contest in their own IT20 and ODI series against their Australian counterparts – will play the senior Australia team in a three-day warm-up at Uptonsteel County Ground, Leicestershire from June 15.
Stars’ Freya Davies and Paige Scholfield have been selected in Lauren Winfield-Hill’s 13-player side, whilst Davidson-Richards will also join the England A squad for the warm-up fixture.
Scholfield is currently the leading run-getter in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy, with 303 runs and two centuries to her name, including a brilliant 134 not out against Western Storm. Seamer Davies has taken six wickets at an average of 20.3 in the same competition.
We wish the best of luck to our Stars and England for the start of the highly-anticipated Ashes summer!
